But back in the 1980s, the flat iron as we know it didn't exist until several inquisitive beauty industry leaders, including our founder, celebrity hairstylist Paul Brown, traveled to Korea. What happened next would change and transform the hair industry.

While visiting Korea, Paul noticed that Korean hairdressers used two flat plates cradled inside plastic handles to straighten hair. The tool was portable, simple, safe and easy to heat up. A lightbulb went off and the rest is history. Paul and a fellow hairdresser went on to introduce one of the first portable flat irons to the United States. This, along with the Japanese Straightening System, helped to cement the reputation of the Honolulu stylist and Paul Brown Hawaii as hair straightening pioneers. Today, Paul Brown Hawaii is among the few who have been manufacturing quality, professional styling tools for more than three decades.
